'Cupid on Ice' theme of week-long celebration
by Amy Wheaton Charlottetown Centre and ATHI/CIC students will be able to enjoy a week of winter carnival activity beginning Feb. 11. ATHI Student Activities Coordinator Barbi Holland says she expects that participation will be quite high this year. "It should be good, really good," she predicts. For CC students, the carnival kicks off with a curling tournament on Feb. 11 at the Charlottetown Curling Club from 2-6 p.m. On Valentine's Day there will be a pie-in-the-face at noon in the student lounge. A pancake breakfast in the cafeteria from 8-9:30 a.m. and a 'no-talent' show at 7 p.m., also in the lounge, are scheduled for Feb. 15. The following day, a tug-of-war in the gym at noon is planned. That evening there will be reduced rates for Holland College students at Brookvale from 6-9 p.m. as well as squash and racquetball at the Spa from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Team trivia will take place in the lounge at noon on Feb. 17. A coffee house will be held in the lounge from 4-6 p.m. the same day. At 8 p.m., Piazza Joe's Winter Carnival Mania will conclude the activities. Throughout the week there will be program area decorating, snow sculpturing and a hockey tournament at the North River Rink. The cost per hockey team is $100 and each team is guaranteed at least two games. For ATHI students, the carnival begins on Feb. 11 with a Valentine social at the Sports Page from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. On Feb. 15 Dooly's will be the place to be with trivia from 8 to 9 p.m. and karaoke afterward until midnight.
